Giveaway: Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald

Penguin has kindly provided a finished copy of UNDER THE EGG for one lucky winner at The Hiding Spot!

UNDER THE EGG is one of those books that I can't stop talking about ... and recommending to everyone who I think might be even the least bit interested in it. It's a MG mystery that ties together history and contemporary events... a lot like The Monument Men and The DaVinci Code, but for younger readers.

Check out my review of UNDER THE EGG here and my interview with the author, Laura Marx Fitzgerald, here, THEN fill out the form below to win a copy! Comment on my review and interview to receive extra chances to win!

More about the book:
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler meets Chasing Vermeer in this clever middle grade debut.

When Theodora Tenpenny spills a bottle of rubbing alcohol on her late grandfather’s painting, she discovers what seems to be an old Renaissance masterpiece underneath. That’s great news for Theo, who’s struggling to hang onto her family’s two-hundred-year-old townhouse and support her unstable mother on her grandfather’s legacy of $463. There’s just one problem: Theo’s grandfather was a security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and she worries the painting may be stolen.

With the help of some unusual new friends, Theo's search for answers takes her all around Manhattan, and introduces her to a side of the city—and her grandfather—that she never knew. To solve the mystery, she'll have to abandon her hard-won self-reliance and build a community, one serendipitous friendship at a time.

  1. I like how she addresses that with todays technology, anyone can be a detective if they are curious. Kids are capable of uncovering and discovering things on their own. Can't wait to read this book!

  2. I really like the idea of a 13 year old girl who thinks like an 80 year old man. I can totally see how that might work but, as you say, it's pretty difficult. Thanks.

  5. I so agree on the sophistication of this book. And VOICE, oh my the voice. I could hear Theo loud and clear, I have met kids who could be Theo in terms of how they talk, they hold themselves--the seriousness with glimmers of the funny, the hope, the excitement of having a friend. That, coupled with the details of history, art, New York--yup. I am a fan. Very excited to have a chance to win a finished copy...I read an ARC.
