Blogger Interview: Aimee from My Fluttering Heart!
As part of Once Upon a Week, I've interviewed a fellow blogger, Aimee (of My Fluttering Heart)!
Tell us a little bit about your blog.
My fluttering heart is a blog style website with posts on whatever makes my heart flutter - usually books! But other things as well, ranging from things like perfume, to interior decorating, to movie reviews. I love getting feedback for my posts - even when you don't feel like blogging (rare, but it does happen), the interaction with bloggers and other readers alike make it totally worth it!
Do you read fairy tales or retellings often?
I would read them all the time if I could! My favourite thing to do is to lounge about on a Sunday with the rain pattering outside, accidentally dripping wine down my front and picking delicately (or not so delicately) at a box of chocolates...all while reading fairytales and the movie Marie Antoinette playing in the background.
What is your favorite retelling?
My favourite retelling would have to be Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan, which is a retelling of the classic Snow White and Rose Red. I'm going to be shameless and plug my review, which you can click and access HERE if you want to read it, because I freakin adored that book!!!
Do you prefer the original tales or retellings?
I do prefer the original tales, I've been brought up on the originals with the sad or horrible endings, and whilst I am well educated on the Disney movies, for example, thanks to visiting friends houses, I find myself going back time and time again to the "originals" (which are of course, derivatives themselves) like Grimms' and Hans Christian Anderson tales. But I love what people like Shannon Hale, Gail Carson Levine and Margo Lanagan have done for the fairytale world.
Are you a fan of Disney retellings?
I'm a fan of the older ones ('specially those around the 80s and early 90s), like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and later on The Little Mermaid, but I think the most recent ones are a bit silly and don't have the same magic.
What Disney character is your favorite or which are you most like?
I'm probably most like Snow White to look at (though my skin isn't as fair) or Belle from Beauty and the Beast, but in terms of personality I think I'm most like that darned dreamy and passionate redhead- Ariel the mermaid :)
Who is your favorite Disney villain?
Oh gosh it'd have to be Ursula the Sea Witch from the Little Mermaid! She's so matronly, but manly at the same time. Her voice is crazy good for a villain - I'd be totally scared out of my wits if I met her on the ocean floor!!
Which princess, either Disney or Grimms/Hans Christian Anderson, do you dislike and why?
I really find Cinderella in the Disney movie difficult to deal with. If she was a real person I would tell her to stand up for herself and stop with the dang cleaning. And she should have just went with her instinct and sought out the prince herself when he went on the hunt for the glass slipper. I know she's been hard done by, but the girl needs some spunk! The other princesses have it in some degree. But not ol' Cindy.
If you could choose to live in a fairytale for a day, which one would it be?
Hands down, Belle's fairytale in Beauty and the Beast. I just can't go past that awesome library and talking teacups!
If you were a princess who had won your own Prince Charming, what would your 'Happily Ever After' castle look like/consist of?
From the outside, it'd be all pearly turrets and glittering rainbow spires, but inside it would have ten libraries (all different themes), a playground for stray dogs, a massive ballroom and a parlour with constant supplies of bread and honey, and finally an absolutely crazy deep moat with swirling water rapids - no enemy would dare cross it!
